Budgets
Here are my expenses broken down for each leg of my travels. My travel expenses may be a bit different from other travelers since I plan on spending money on language study and archaeological digs, which also involve me staying put in one area for some time.
The categories are pretty self-explanatory, but just to clarify:
- Transport includes overland transport (bus, train, tuk-tuk, etc.) and in-country flights.
- Miscellaneous includes Internet access fees and random expenses.
- Souvenirs includes gifts for myself or others.
- Visas includes entry/exit fees when crossing borders.
- Medical includes medicine or doctor fees along the way.
- Hygiene includes shampoo, soap, and haircuts - necessities I would need anywhere.
Central America Spanish Study Extravaganza (12/27/07 - 2/20/08)
*Just a few notes: I was traveling with Brian on this trip, so we mostly stayed in private rooms or hotels. There were a few times we splurged on nice (luxury places) and dinners, and we also spent more money in the end staying in the business district of Guatemala City. We ate out a lot, and never held back if we wanted something - another beer, dessert, etc. With that said, we feel that we very well could have spent less money on our trip, but still feel great about the experiences we had, spending money on language school, and seeing ruins. No regrets!
